Six students in the Dayton Public Schools awarded scholarships

One graduating senior from each of the Dayton Public high schools received a $1,000 scholarship provided by the Montgomery County Educational Service Center (MCESC) at the Franklin B. Walter Scholarship Luncheon.

The Franklin B. Walter Scholarship is named in honor of the longtime State Superintendent, who served between 1977 and 1991. 

Twenty-one scholarships were presented Tuesday, April 9 at the Marriott at the University of Dayton to one senior from each of the area’s high schools. 

Students were nominated by their school districts. Awards, activities, attendance, and GPA were just a few of the nomination criteria. Student essays on a teacher who has influenced his or her life and academic career were also taken into consideration. 

Those teachers of influence received $500 from the MCESC, which can be used for instructional materials or classrooms.

Belmont High School:

David H. Ponitz Career Technology Center:

Meadowdale High School:

Stivers School for the Arts:
Miannah Lawrence
