catapultNews

Updates / Noticias

2:36 p.m. Wednesday, March 10: All DPS student events for March are canceled.

DPS has been actively monitoring the rapidly evolving Coronavirus. The health and safety of our students, families and staff is our primary concern in this fluid situation. Decisions are being taken to help mitigate and slow the spread of COVID-19 and to help protect the DPS community.

To date, no known cases of COVID-19 have been identified in DPS. We know and acknowledge the potential inconvenience and loss of opportunity for students as preventative measures are put in place, yet the risks of not acting now far outweigh the disruption.

DISTRICT PREVENTATIVE MEASURES / DISTRITO MEDIDAS PREVENTIVAS

The district is taking several additional steps to keep students and staff healthy, including:

  • Having sanitation wipes available in all classrooms and ensuring desks are wiped down regularly
  • Providing hand sanitizer to all schools and other district buildings
  • Requiring custodians to take more thorough cleaning measures, including the daily disinfecting of high-touch points in classrooms and around the building, such as door knobs/handles, handrails, light switches and table tops
  • Requiring bus drivers to disinfect the fronts and backs of all bus seats on a daily basis
  • The district is also developing a thorough sanitation plan for all shared supplies and equipment, such as keyboards and art and music supplies.

STUDENT ACTIVITIES AND EVENTS / ACTIVIDADES Y EVENTOS ESTUDIANTILES

FIELD TRIPS / VIAJES AL CAMPO

The Dayton Public School District has decided to cancel all field trips as a preventative measure. Parents of students participating in state competitions, such as the State Science Fair, are asked to provide their own transportation.

All athletic field trips will continue at this time because there have not been changes to normal league schedules.

ATHLETICS / ATLETISMO

OHSAA has placed limits on who can attend high school athletic events, including the March 11 and March 12 tournament games.

Players and cheerleaders can bring 4 family members to the game. Tickets MUST be purchased at the game. Tickets already purchased will be refunded at the point of purchase. Coaches may also designate 2 family members to attend. Anyone who is not a family member of a player, cheerleader or coach will NOT be permitted to attend.

HOW TO STOP THE SPREAD

Please continue to follow everyday preventative measures, such as washing hands frequently and sneezing or coughing into your elbow rather than your hands. For more information, please refer to guidelines provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) at cdc.gov
