Stivers Senior Awarded Scholarship

Stivers School for the Arts senior Layah Brown (center) was surprised with a $2,500 scholarship from McAfee Heating and Air Conditioning in her dance class on Monday, April 15. Greg McAfee (right), president and founder, presented her with the giant check. The “You Can Count on Me” scholarship was awarded to 10 area students. Teacher Meghan Mitman (left) received $250 to use for her classroom because Brown named her as a teacher of influence in her scholarship application. 

Dunbar Senior Earns Associate Degree before High School Graduation

Dunbar Early College High School senior Abigail Irving earned her associate degree before graduating from high school. Through the College Credit Plus Program, Irving was able to earn a Liberal Arts degree from Sinclair Community College while still working toward her Dunbar diploma. This opportunity is available to all students between 7th and 12th grade in the Dayton Public Schools. 

Six DPS Seniors Awarded $1,000 Scholarships

Six seniors were awarded $1,000 scholarships provided by the Montgomery County Educational Service Center (MCESC) at the Franklin B. Walter Scholarship Luncheon held April 9. The students’ teachers of influence received $500 to use on instructional materials or classrooms. From left to right: Ms.Nicole Gunder, Daisha Williams (Thurgood Marshall STEM High School), Miannah Lawrence (Stivers School for the Arts), Mr. Kevin Kuehner, V’Shonne Allen (David H. Ponitz Career Technology Center), Mr. James Bornhorst, Rodney Rappley (Meadowdale High School), Mr. James Lacking, Ty’Lynne Bradley (Dunbar Early College High School), Master Sergeant Oliver, Danielle Hammond (Belmont High School), and Superintendent Elizabeth Lolli.
