A great weekend for DPS athletics

AROUND THE WORLD RESULTS

On Saturday morning we held our Around the World tournament at Belmont High School. It was a huge success and the champions were as follows:

5th grade girls

  • Delaya Pooler – Valerie
  • Miracle Walker – Louise Troy
  • Bayshanna Drake – Valerie
  • Jabria Bickershaff – Belle Haven

5th grade boys

  • Johnathan Orbas – Cleveland
  • Tristen Bozeman – Louise Troy
  • Demba Sene – River’s Edge
  • Osman Ispakhev – Ruskin

6th grade girls

  • Al’Kenzie Harris – Valerie
  • Aiyana Jones – Valerie
  • Samiyah Chambers – WOW
  • Ashley Cooper – Cleveland

6th grade boys

  • Lamontre Tripp – WOW
  • Nydrell Wright – Cleveland
  • Nick Young – Eastmont
  • Shavar Ross – Fairview

Overall school placements:
Valerie – 368.5 (1st place)
Cleveland – 308.5 (2nd place)
Louise Troy – 240 (3rd place)

MIDDLE SCHOOL BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT RESULTS

We also hosted the middle school basketball tournament at Meadowdale High School.  

7th grade girls: Wright Brothers defeated Stivers: 45-13
7th grade boys: Wogaman defeated Edwin Joel Brown: 47-23
8th grade girls: Edwin Joel Brown defeated Stivers:
8th grade boys: Wogaman defeated Edwin Joel Brown: 40-36

High School Boys Tournament

In our high school boys tournament we had five teams participate over the weekend and the results are as follows:

Ponitz was defeated by Badin: 54-33
Thurgood Marshall defeated Bellbrook: 78-48
Stivers defeated Houston: 58-43
Meadowdale defeated Tippecanoe: 45-44
Belmont was defeated by Butler: 60-56


Those teams winning in the first round will be playing int the second round of the sectional tournament this week.

  • Thurgood Marshall will play Clinton Massie on Tuesday 2/26 at 7:30 – Trent Arena       
  • Stivers will play Lebanon Dixie on Wednesday 2/27 at 7:30 – Butler 
  • Meadowdale will play Springfield Northwestern on Thursday 2/28 at 6:00 – Springfield
Pre-sale tickets will be on sale at each school after school hours for anyone interested in purchasing them.  The benefit of pre-sale tickets are the schools will receive a portion of the money.  Again please see the site coordinator located in each building (after hours) to get your ticket.

Wrestling 

We also have wrestlers participating in their sectional tournaments at various locations: Graham, Lehman Catholic and Centerville. Two wrestlers from Thurgood Marshall will be moving on to the district tournament:

  • 2nd place Ayyoub Muhammed (138)
  • 3rd place Saa’lih Muhammed (120)
Three wrestlers from Ponitz will be moving on to the district tournament: 
  • 6th place Meshack Ilunga (113)
  • 6th place Kaliq Crutch (160)
  • 6th place Jahbar Banks (285)
Two wrestlers from Stivers will be moving on to the district tournament:
  • 5th place Giovanni Crawford (132)
  • 4th place Maurice Benton (220)
It was great weekend for DPS athletics!
