DPS 8th-graders learn more about high school options

catapultNews

All eighth-grade students in the Dayton Public Schools learned about their high school options in early February at the district’s first High School Fair.

Representatives from David H. Ponitz CTC, Belmont High School, Meadowdale High School-Career Technical Center, Thurgood Marshall STEM High School, Dunbar Early College High School and Stivers School for the Arts spoke to 8th-graders about what their schools offer and how they could benefit students.

Students have the ability to choose their high school in the Dayton Public Schools. Each high school offers specific learning opportunities, such as College Credit Plus or Career Technical programs. If a student wishes to earn his or her Associate Degree before graduating, Dunbar Early College High School would be the best option. If a student wishes to teach in an urban district, the Urban Teacher Academy at Meadowdale High School-Career Technical Center would be the best route.

After students heard from each school, they picked their top choices for next year and submitted them to their counselors. More information about the programs offered at DPS high schools can be found at DaytonPublic.com.
